Verena's Apfelstrudel

Not exact measurements since it is all done by feel.

2 lb Fuji Apples sliced thin and relatively small 
2 C flour
3/4 C melted butter
1 egg
Big pinch salt
1/3 C almond
2/3 C bread crumbs
1/2 t cinnamon plus more for sprinkling
2 T sugar plus more for sprinkling
Less than a quarter cup raisins

Mix flour, egg, salt, 1/3 C melted butter, 2 TBS water by hand until it resembles pizza dough. Continue kneading for a while until the dough has a soft surface.  Let it rest while taking care of the next items until it is needed again.
 
Chop almonds

Take 4 TBS of the melted butter and put in sauce pan, 
Heat up butter till it talks, then add breadcrumbs, cinnamon and sugar

Heat oven to 440

Spread flour over old sheet on kitchen table
Roll out dough on flour until it is super thin and you can see your hand underneath
Use melted butter to paint the dough
Break up the breadcrumb mixture and spread it around leaving a small edge
Spread the apples on top
Sprinkle with Cinnamon, Sugar and spiced Rum

Bake for 35 minutes or until golden brown
Baste with butter
Sprinkle with remaining almonds and some sugar
